Creative writing success for year 11 Hale

17th November 2017

Year 11 creative writing success - HaleYear 11 student Hale recently took part in a residential trip with First Story. First Story brings professional writers into secondary schools serving low-income communities to work with teachers and students to foster creativity and communication skills. As part of their programme, they host summer residentials, an intensive week of creative writing workshops and tutorials.

Hale spent her week with other students from a range of backgrounds, taking part in group workshops, individual tutorials and evening readings. The students who attend all live, write and eat together, cooking their evening meal in teams.

First Story anthologyHale’s place was paid for by the academy as reward for her dedication to her creative writing classes, in which she has produced some truly top quality writing. Whilst the trip happened during August, the anthology of writing that was produced during the summer was released to the general public last week. The image here on the left shows one of Hale’s pieces which has been published as part of this anthology. To read more from this collection of creative writing, visit
