  • Queen Elizabeth's Academy Christmas Lunch

    Staff and students had the opportunity to dine together on the 10/11 December and enjoyed a fabulous Christmas  Lunch in the Hall whilst listening to Christmas music.

  • Victorian Christmas Market

    On Thursday 27th November the Academy opened its doors to the community of Mansfield and welcomed all to their annual Victorian Christmas Market.  Over 350 people visited the market and were welcomed by a multitude of stalls selling festive treats and delicious seasonal refreshments.  Students from Flying High Academy, Crescent Primary, Farmilo Primary and Queen Elizabeth’s Academy all came together to mark the occasion with a Lantern Display and songs in the cloister area of the Academy.  This gave a warm

  • Y9 Ambitions Event University of Nottingham

    On Wednesday 26th November, a group of identified Y9 more able students took part in their first visit to the University of Nottingham. The Ambitions Programme is regarding supporting students through their exam preparation and helping to raise their ambitions by looking at universities as a route to their further education. Our Y10 cohort will be taking part in their 3rd visit on Monday 15 December 2014.

  • 2014 Beacon Project

    Over the last half-term students from across the Academy have been collecting food items to support the homeless people of Mansfield, Ashfield and the surrounding areas; allowing people to access food, washing facilities and a place to  be listened to throughout the week.

  • Operation Christmas Child

    Over the last four weeks, students and staff have been collecting goods/goodies and organising the Shoe Boxes which will go to support children worldwide to show the true meaning of Christmas.

    On Monday 17th November, Year 8 students visited Chesterfield Road Methodist Church to deliver the Academy’s annual collection of Shoe Boxes!

    This year our students kindly volunteered not only to deliver the Shoe Boxes but they also supported the volunteers at the Methodist Church to check and pack more shoeboxes. Well

  • Sponsored Walk in aid of former student

    During the Summer term QEA held a sponsored walk to support an ex pupil Brenon Coates who in 2012 suffered a life altering accident. The students of Queen Elizabeth’s Academy took part in a sponsored walk at the Academy and are trying to raise funds to support Brenon’s intensive physiotherapy programme which could help Brenon possibly walk again.

    On Tuesday 11th November Queen Elizabeth’s Academy held a special Remembrance Service to commemorate the 100 years since World War 1.

    Members of the British Legion, Rev Dr Keith Hebden, Old Elizabethan Association Members, St Peter's Church of England Primary School staff and pupiils, parents and Queen Elizabeth students all came together to take a moment to make a mark of respect for the 36 former students of Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School that went to support the First World War and lost their lives.     On Thursday 11th September students from the Academy took part in an Inspiration day at Sherwood Pines along with Farmilo and St Peters Primary School around 100 students were invited to take part in this project across the three schools.     Year 5 and 6 from Crescent and Farmilo Primary School's took part in a lantern workshop to make large scale lanterns out of willow. These lanterns will be displayed at our Victorian Market, when the children will be showcasing their hard work.

  • Academy Open As Usual on 14th October

    You may be aware that UNISON, GMB and possibly UNITE representing support staff in schools have voted to take industrial action in the form of a one-day National strike on Tuesday 14th October 2014.

    The disruption created by these strikes, and the need to have regard to the health and safety of pupils, has caused the academy to decide whether or not to remain open to pupils.

  • Y9 Clipstone Camp

    On Wednesday 1st October around 30 year 9 students visited Sherwood Pines. This term as part of their History lessons they are exploring World War 1.  This work is contributing to a memorial event which is planned to take place at the Academy on Friday 14th November.

    Clipstone Camp was a former training camp in 1914 and had many trench areas for the soldiers to be trained in and as part of the 100 years since the beginning of the 1st World War there has been a recreation of the trench area for the general pu

  • Macmillan Coffee Morning

    On Friday 26th September the Academy opened its doors to the Mansfield Community to hold our annual Macmillan Coffee morning.  Students, parents and staff had all been very busy baking in aid of this good cause.  Mrs Bland hosted a “Bake off” competition staff were invited to bake either a Victorian Sponge or Bakewell Tart strict recipes had to be followed;

    Queen Elizabeth’s Academy would like to invite you to the Open Evening being held on Tuesday 30th September at Queen Elizabeth’s Academy from 5:00pm starting in the Main Hall.

    On the evening, student ambassadors will be leading guided tours of the facilities on offer at the Academy. Your child will have the chance to take part in lessons and activities; meet our dedicated members of staff and take part in the exciting learning experiences taking place.

  • Welcome to the new year!

    The Academy reopens to students on Thursday 4th September. Year 7 students should report to the Main Hall to meet their tutors at 8:40am. They will then spend the morning with their tutors gaining information about the Academy.

    All other students (Years 8 - 11) should be at the Academy for 11am and go to their tutor rooms at 11:15am to be informed of timetables and other information.

    All students will be in lessons at 12:15pm for the remainder of the day.

    The normal Academy timetable will resume on Friday 5th

    Students will be leaving after registration and will be back around 5.30pm -6pm. Due to the current weather please ensure that your child has sun cream and plenty of water. Non uniform that is appropriate for the trip can be worn.

  • Temporary changes to lunchtime

    I am writing to let you know about the temporary changes to lunch time during the exam period. We are proposing to make the lunch time from 12:15pm - 12:50pm for a 6 week period. This will mean three lessons before lunch and two after lunch.

    This will ensure that all Year 11 students will have enough time to have their lunch and make their way to their exam venue in time for a 1:00pm start.

    We propose to start the new lunch time from week commencing 5th May 2014.

  • New Vice Principal

    Interviews were held last week for the position of Vice Principal at Queen Elizabeth's Academy. The initial number of applications received numbered well over twenty. Six applicants were shortlisted for a two day interview and selection process from the national field of over twenty candidates.

    Following two rigorous days of interviewing and selection tasks, Mrs Karen Green was appointed Vice Principal at the Academy. Mrs Green has been at the Academy since October 2012 and has led on the areas of inclusion

  • Y11 Maths at Nottingham University

    Year 11 students with a predicted grade of B/A or A* were invited to take part in a day of revision at Nottingham University.  Students were taught by University staff highlighting three Maths topics which included: Algebra, Space & Shape and Trigonometry.  Students also took part in a study skills session which helped them learn about the best way for them to revise and plan their time around the core exam period.
