I would like to introduce Cristo Rodriguez, our new Academy Chaplain - he works for 'In Christ in Schools' and they have kindly agreed to lend him to us for 1 day per week to build on our Christian Distinctiveness an

    Principal's blog - 15 December 2017

    15th December 2017

As Christmas fast approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to look back on what a superb term it has been at Queen Elizabeth’s Academy.

Success for our new curriculum, teaching and approach to behaviour
Our new knowledge based curriculum has started to embed, with students and staff comfortable with and enjoying the increased rigour that comes with it. Knowledge organisers have been a particular hit and we have written to you this week to explain how these should be used at home to support learning.

Meet the newest additions to our academy!

    30th November 2017

Some of the newest recruits to the academy might not be able to say much, but they can teach us a great deal! Mrs Morris, teacher of science, is expanding the collection of animals we have in the department with the aim of launching an animal club after the Christmas break.

The club will focus on looking at animals, their biology and movement, and be a fabulous experience for students who may not have seen or heard of some of the creatures in the collection!

The latest additions have been Petrie the Axolotl,

    Principal's blog - 27 November 2017

    27th November 2017

As our year 11 students undertake their mock exams this week, I want to emphasise how important it is that students feel able to access us for support at this time of high pressure.

I know from speaking with the students that they have never worked harder. The knowledge-based curriculum is challenging them, as we had said that it would. The direct-instruction teaching model is ensuring that maximum learning takes place in the classroom, and that knowledge is transferred to long-term memory ready for students

    Blood Brothers experience for students

    27th November 2017

On Wednesday last week (22 November 2017) a group of students from Queen Elizabeth’s had a wonderful opportunity to enhance their study of the play Blood Brothers as they went to experience a showing of this powerful production at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham.

Blood Brothers is a set text for the 47 students’ GCSE English Literature exam, so the chance to see Willy Russell’s famous play was both a great cultural experience and will support their exam success.

Principal's blog - the start of a new year

    11th September 2017

I would like to welcome you back to the start of our new year at Queen Elizabeth's Academy, and what a start it has been! The new blazers look sensational and we have restored our historic house system, with the addition of Flogan to acknowledge Dame Flogan who bequeathed the land we stand on to the original school back in 1458.

The real difference however, can be felt in each and every classroom. Students are engaging with our new knowledge based curriculum better than ever, and the direct instruction teach
